Get Involved at Brookdale!

Clean Ups

Water Watch hosts many large clean ups to draw attention to the important issue of water pollution. Clean ups are a great way to spread awareness as well as get people involved in cleaning up their local waterways. Contact us to get involved in planning these great events!

Stream Monitoring

Our "Stream Team" is currently conducting visual, chemical, and biological tests at Poricy Brook and Nut Swamp Brook. This spring, they used their data to canvas the local communities surrounding these brooks and spread awareness about New Jersey's waterways, encoruaging residents to get involved. Contact us if you are interested in joining our Stream Team or helping out in any way!

The Stream Team is also available to train community groups interested in becoming Water Watchdogs of their local waterways! Contact us for more info!

Education

Education is a key component to cleaning up our waterways! This fall, Brookdale Water Watch will be visiting local schools and youth groups to teach fun, interactive lessons about water quality! We also plan to work with Monmouth County Friends of Clearwater to train high schools students to become environmental educators in their local communities. Contact us to get involved!

Just this spring, we educated over 400 students, including scouts, local elementary school classes, and even Brookdale's on-campus daycare.

Other Projects

  • Alternative Spring Break
This spring, the Brookdale chapters of NJ Community Water Watch and Circle K International joined forces with Rutgers-Newark Water Watch and Habitat for Humanity of Paterson, New Jersey! We spent three days on build sites in Paterson, NJ. On the fourth day, we visited two schools in Newark and taught lessons about urban runoff and how students can effect change in their local communities. This trip was aimed at the concept of "thinking globally, and acting locally." Contact us for more information on next year's Alternative Spring Break and how you can get involved!
  • Recycling Program
Brookdale CC has a great recycling program in place - the problem is enforcing it. One of BCCWW's plans for next semester is to work more closely with Facilities Management and other students groups/faculty members to get the campus recycling. We are looking for students to run this campaign. Contact us if you wish to get involved.
